Basic Plumbers Tool List and Optional Plumbing Tools.
This is a basic plumbers tool list more or less may required by your employer.
6 – way screw driver -Screwdrivers are used for screwing screws or phillips head ,and flathead bolts. Never use a screwdriver for punching , scraping , chiseling or prying. Must have in a plumbers tool list.
Needle-nose pliers -Needle- nose pliers can be used for cutting and gripping. Needle-nose pliers are great for reaching hard places. Never cut live wires
10″Vise grip pliers – Vise grip pliers are great for holding objects in place. Curved jaws, knurled tips and wire cutters.
3- piece Cold Chisel set – Cold chisels are used for cast iron , brass , copper and concrete. Get cold chisels rated for concrete.
3- piece Wood Chisel set -Wood chisels are used for chiseling around wood. Great for removing wood for installing pipe. Never use wood chisel on metal or concrete.
2ft level – Used for grading pipe in trenches and leveling tubs and showers. A must have for plumbers tool list.
Flat File – Great for sharpening bits. A must have for plumbers tool list
Round File – Used for deburring copper and plastic pipes.
left or right handed Tin snips - Great for cutting metal another must have on plumbers tool list.
Caulking gun – Used for finish around tubs , showers , toilets and more.
Safety Gloves – Using gloves is an easy way to prevent injuries and chemical reactions.
Ear plugs – Ear plugs or ear protection; protects your hearing and reduces stress.
2# or 3# Sledge hammer – Small sledge hammers are good for chipping up thin concrete or driving stakes.
20# Sledge Hammer – large sledge hammers are good for driving large steaks and busting concrete.
Flashlight – Flashlights are great for dark areas were you wouldn’t need light for long periods.
Drywall knife – Used for cutting drywall , opening boxes and cutting insulation.
Hack saw – Hack saws are used for cutting closet bolts and any other metal including pipe.
Hole saw kit – Make sure you get in your set 3/4 – 7/8 – 1-1/8 – 1-1/2 – 1-3/4 – 2-1/4. You may also won’t to get a 5/8 and 3 , 4, and 5
Torpedo level – Torpedo levels make sure you get one with 45′s for 45 angles. A must have in a plumbers tool list.
PVC Hand saw – A PVC saw will cut PVC and wood. Used to cut PVC and ABS.
PEX Crimpers - Most of the multi head systems come with 1 – 3/4 – 1/2 and 3/8 inch crimp heads. Great for joining PEX.
Spud wrench -A set of spud wrenches will provide a assortment of bolt or nut sizes that can be tightened.
Flaring tool kit - For double or single flare in copper aluminum soft steel . Used for fittings that require flared connections.
Pipe wrenches - 10″/14″/18″/24″ For connecting threaded steel pipe. A must have in a plumbers tool list.
Basin wrench – A basin wrench is used for removing faucets from sinks. A must have in a plumbers tool list.
Plastic tube cutter/Scissor type – Great for PEX , PVC and other plastic pipes.
Torch – Torches range from hand – held to a and b tank setups. Torches are for soldiering and brazing. All plumbers tool list.
Hole Hawg drill – Hole hawgs are for drilling in studs and through roofs.
Hole hawg Bits – Hole hawg bits are for drilling holes trough wood.
Reciprocating Saw – Also known as a sawzall are great for cutting pipe , holes in wood and cutting metal.
Grinder – Great for deburing pipes , cutting hole in metal and removing sharp edges.
Toolbox or bag – A job box is great . But a to bag or tool box is a must.
25 ft tape measure – The tape measure should have at least a one inch wide tape.
1/4 Nutdriver – A 1/4 inch nut driver is mainly used for trimming to remove panels of of some fixtures.
5/16 Nutdriver – 5/16 nut drivers are used for trimming also and bands.
Torque Wrench 5/16 – A torque wrench is used for tightening and torquing no hub bands and fernco bands.
10” Channel Locks Pliers – For a variety of uses. A must have in your plumbers tool list.
Strap Pipe wrench – Used for delicate Finnishes .
Open End Wrenches – 9/16 – 1/2 and 7/16 Great for tightening bolts.
Adjustable Wrench- 6″ and 10″ Great for bolts and trimming. A must have for your plumbers tool list.
Allen Wrench Set (standard] – Alson a must need for a plumber used a lot.
Copper Tubing Cutters – Copper cutters are the way to cut copper tubing and pipes.
Combination (Tri-square) with 6” or 12” rule – Great for laying out for running pipes.
Reamer - deburring tool works for copper and hard plastic pipes.
Socket wrench set – 1/2″ drive and 3/8 drive
Spray bottle – For finding a leak in pipes. Mix dishwashing soap and water.
Wrench – basket strainer – For use on a basket strainer works better than using pliers.
Wrench set – faucet seat – A must have for working on faucets.
Safety Boots – Safety boots are a must have to prevent foot injuries.
Bender – Bender is used to bend chrome supply tubes.
Cordless Drill – A cordless drill is a must have for a plumbers tool list. A combo kit is better if you can grab one.
